About Mohammed Sheikh.
Founder/CEO Mohammed Sheikh’s filmmaking journey began amidst the captivating stories of
the Kebribeyah refugee camp in Eastern Ethiopia. Raised on his mother’s tales and the
flickering images of a small television, he discovered a passion for storytelling that has since
become the driving force behind his work.
As a self-taught filmmaker, Mohammed is deeply committed to capturing the diverse narratives
of the Somali community. His films, including “The Forgotten Ones” and “Balwo,” have not only
gained recognition but have also sparked conversations on critical issues. “The ForgottenOnes,” a short documentary, has been screened in cities across the United States and featured
in esteemed publications like CBS, Sahan Journal, and MPR News. Meanwhile, “Balwo,” a short
film, has found a home at the Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Film Festival, captivating
audiences with its poignant portrayal of Somali life.
